BAHAMAS URBAN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER
BUILDING SKILLS AND
RESILIANCE IN YOUNG PEOPLE
TO IMPROVE CITIZEN SECURITY
This program target disaffected 17-25-year-old, women and men who are not in employment, education or training, and who are disconnected from civic structures.
The youth reside in the “hot spot” neighborhoods (e.g. Bains & Grants Town, Englerston, Pinewood, Yellow Elder, Nassau Village, Fox Hill and Kemp Road) with the highest incidences of gangs, crime and violence. Some of these young people are homeless, parenting, ex-offenders, struggling with substance abuse, victims or perpetrators of violence, and without a high school diploma.
They are the most “at-risk,” difficult-to-serve, young citizens of the Bahamas. The secondary target population are the families of participants—from the “hot spot” neighborhoods who will benefit from the community service and improved infrastructure created by YBB’s “Community Asset Building” (CAB) activities.
